For many of us long time Portlanders, It is hard to believe that the Streetcar loop is finally complete and will open to the public in less than a month.
Starting in 1998, the streetcar has doubled it’s service to join the east and west side of the city, as well as go from the north to the south. With progress also comes an increase in service and operational costs, all while trying to balance fiscal responsibility and keeping rates reasonable. Therefore, starting September 1st there will be an increase in fares for the Streetcar. Portland Streetcar will still have the lowest fares among modern street car systems in the United States.
However with the fair increase there will also be a few welcome changes:
- Extended service to include the Tillicum Crossing
- Improved Saturday service
- Added late night service
- Increased Security
So the next time you are in the Pearl, hop on the Streetcar and checkout the new bridge!
